Practical notes

Extending or shortening an apartment booking

Prices and terms for a stay with an uncertain end date.

A three-week booking can turn into four weeks, or finish after two. Before paying, get the charges for both situations in writing.

Another week

For a 21-night reservation, request the price of seven extra nights and the deadline for extending. Confirm whether the extension keeps you in the same apartment. A residence may have availability elsewhere in the building but need you to move.

Leaving early

If you leave after 14 nights, will the unused week be refunded? Some bookings have a minimum paid period. Others allow changes with notice. The cancellation policy should cover an early departure as well as cancelling before arrival.

The full budget

A £6,000 budget over 21 nights works out at about £286 a night. This is a budgeting example, not an apartment rate. Include taxes and mandatory charges in that allowance; keep a refundable security deposit separate.

  • Initial stay: total price and payment dates.
  • Extension: nightly price, notice period and same-apartment availability.
  • Early departure: charges and any refundable nights.
  • Arrival changes: deadline and cancellation charge.
  • Extras: laundry, additional cleaning and beds for companions.

Hospital accommodation

The hospital’s patient-support or family-accommodation team may have accommodation you are eligible to use. Contact them before committing to a private booking.

For an apartment quote, send the confirmed dates and mark any provisional ones. The team needs bedrooms, budget and access requirements, without a patient’s name or medical history.
